Benjie’s rich experience in working with teams from diverse cultures and backgrounds in different capacities taught him the value of leveraging individual perspectives as a critical factor to successfully introduce new ideas and behaviors towards achieving a common goal.  His experiences in leading various organization transformation initiatives deepened his belief in the value of effective leadership particularly during times of rapid change.   

Professional Experience

 Benjie is a seasoned Human Resources professional who has worked with multinational companies in the Philippines and across Asia Pacific.  He gained a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical, consumer health and nutrition segments working with companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, MeadJohnson Nutrition and Sterling Winthrop (now part of Glaxo SmithKline). His most recent stint was as Senior Vice President for Human Resources of Philex Mining Corporation.  In his stints as a regional and country HR leader, Benjie developed valuable insights and competencies in the areas of attracting high caliber talent, cross-cultural leadership development, building organization capability, enhancing organization performance, executing major organization changes and operating in a matrix environment.

During his 25 years in the healthcare industry, he led HR work streams in a number of major initiatives involving mergers and acquisitions. In one initiative, a business unit was spun off to form a joint venture with another company. Benjie guided the creation of the new leadership team for the joint venture organization.  In another initiative, as HR head of the company being acquired, he planned and executed a program to ensure an orderly transition to minimize the loss of key talent.  He later leveraged these experiences in planning and executing similar initiatives on a regional scale.

In his regional HR role, Benjie led that talent acquisition effort to create a regional research and development team to support the company’s business expansion plan. Working with a cross-functional team, he participated in several market entry initiatives in Asia.  As part of a corporate global initiative, he led the implementation of a new performance management process across Asia.  This new process reinforced a set of leadership behaviors towards achieving organizational and individual goals. Benjie helped a number of regional and country leaders to embody this set of leadership behaviors.
